Memórias e diário íntimo de um fidalgo bracarense
This book is the transcription of the diary and ledger book of João Luís Jácome, a representative of one of the most distinguished families of the aristocracy of Braga, written between 1787 and 1810. A public man, actively participating in the politics and society of his time, Jácome was also a man of emotions and affections, chronicling his family relations, political struggles and individual experiences. The first part of the book is devoted to an academic study. In the flaps there’s the family tree of the House of Avelar.
The main challenge in designing this diary was to provide a reading experience close to that of the manuscript. Excluding the option of a facsimile edition, this digital transcription displays all the erasures, paper tears, margin notes, spaces left blank, writing size variations, etc., as they exist in the handwritten version by Jácome. In close collaboration with the author, a set of rules and graphical notations was created for the transcript.
